In 1921, Albert Einstein won the Nobel Prize in Theoretical Physics. But he did not win it for his theory of relativity or his proof that all material is made up of atoms.

He won it for a paper he published in 1905 that explained how light reacted with certain metals.

His hypothesis was insanely simple. When he shined a light on a metal plate, he observed the metal became alive with energy.

Until then, nobody could explain why this happened, because scientists had always believed light was a wave that didn't contain particles. But Einstein proved otherwise.

He was able to show that light carried packets of energy, later called PHOTONS. When the photons bombarded the metal plate, it caused electrons to be knocked loose from the metal, unleashing electrical energy.

For Einstein it was further proof that everything in the world is made up of particles of atoms even light. But it did something else......something that's about to transform the energy industry.

Einstein's Nobel Prize-winning paper on the "phoroelectric effect" ie solar energy, is now a $19 billion industry. But according to technology magazine Red Herring, the industry is about to explode to $72 billion by 2010.

How will it achieve such blockbuster growth?
